Mule Deer Hunting at Dome Mountain Ranch

Hunting Mule Deer with Dome Mountain Outfitters offers it's own unique appeal.  As a welcome bonus to our Elk Hunts, Mule deer can serve as the icing on the cake or provide an exciting Montana hunting experience all on thier own.

The option of adding Mule Deer to your hunt with us is a simple choice.  For a few extra dollars, most clients agree that having a Mule Deer tag in their pocket is well worth it.

Rather than charge one "all inclusive combination price" we offer this as an option to our clients which becomes your choice to pay once you've arrived at the ranch and begun your elk hunt.  This additional fee is only applicable should you choose to hunt Mule Deer or make the decision in the field when that Trophy Mule Deer of a lifetime walks within your sights.  Be sure to ask about our "Mule Deer Trophy" fee during your booking process.  It's important to select a week that offers this as an option.

ARCHERY MULE DEER HUNTS

Chasing these surprisingly elusive big game animals with a bow and arrow is often a truly heart pounding, exciting adventure.  During the fall, the days are long.  Large Mule Deer bucks will frequent the rolling hills and open country of Dome Mountain Ranch.  It's not unusual to plan several spot and stalk approaches on these wary critters.  Many of our largest deer are taken during archery season.

RIFLE HUNTING MONTANA'S GHOSTS

Mule Deer are often referred to as the "ghosts of the open range".  Once rifle season rolls around, they'll begin to rut.  This is the time when many of the high countries biggest bruisers are seen.  During this transformation of nature large bucks will fight and spar while chasing does nearly all day long.  Just witnessing this exciting activity of such large deer can be enough to make even the most reserved hunter get the shakes.  Adding Mule Deer to your tag is a great option and one that you might find offers the hunt of a lifetime.

Trophy Mule Deer Hunting at Dome Mountain Ranch

Montana Mule deer are known as the ghosts of the open range and can serve as an excellent introduction to elk hunting.  Pursuing these elusive big game animals is exciting and challenging.  Trophy Mule deer hunting is in a class all it's own.  As animal unique to the west, there's no wonder this sort of hunt can quickly become an addiction.  Having the unique exclusivity of private land here at Dome Mountain, harvests and hunter numbers are limited, which means nearly daily opportunities.

Whether you choose to hunt trophy Mule deer with a bow during the fall or try to time your hunt into the Mule Deer rut which happens in mid-November, these wary critters will test your hunting skills to the limit.  Mule deer hunting is often an all day long adventure.  While it's not unusual to see shooter bucks daily during your hunt, you'll find that the real challenge is closing the distance and trying to outwit these true wild animals.

Dome Mountain Ranch offers two different options for Mule.  Many hunters choose to add a mule deer tag to their license application as a bonus of sorts to their elk hunt.  We assess an additional fee which is not payable until the hunter commits to harvesting a mule deer.  For example, often a lucky elk hunter will harvest an elk early on during his or her hunt.  Having this additional tag is a great option.  On the other hand, a client with this "combination tag" does not have to feel pressured to harvest a trophy Mule Deer.

We also offer "Mule Deer only hunts" which serve as an inexpensive and less physically demanding western hunt with a higher success rate in comparison to elk hunting.  On most years our Mule Deer hunters have nearly 100% opportunity.  Regardless, most Mule Deer hunters would agree that this hunt in itself can be the hunt of a lifetime and it's hard to believe you can have the best of both worlds in one place.  It's the same great food, great guides, wildlife density and incredible country that's hard to beat.
